Opens Manufacturing unit in South Africa

Phytopharm plc (PYM: London Stock Exchange) (”Phytopharm” or “the Company”) announces that it is raising £2.2 million, net of expenses, through the placing of 1,556,400 new Ordinary Shares for cash with institutional investors at a price of 145p per share. The placing has been arranged by the Company’s broker, WestLB Panmure Limited.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Company’s Articles of Association and in line with plans announced at the time of the Company’s flotation in 1996, Brian Whittle stands down from the Board of Phytopharm plc today, having attained the age of 65. Brian Whittle was a founding shareholder of the Company and its first Chief Executive. He has served as its Chief Scientific Officer since 1994.
